It looked like the start of a promising year for the Sox. They got Manny Ramirez and Hideo Nomo in the offseason. Nomo pitched a no-hitter the 2nd game of the season and Manny destroyed the opposition the first two months. The Yankees again looked beatable. But with no Nomar until July it would be tough.

The season wore on with more injuries and seemingly dumb Jimy Williams decisions but they were still within striking range in late July. Then the Yankees and Oakland got hot and the Sox had more injuries. Finally Duquette fired Jimy Williams for one last gasp with Joe Kerrigan. No dice! A horrible losing streak, lots of infighting, and another season down.

The playoffs and World Series were great for any baseball fan. The Yankees beat Oakland and Seattle and were about to put Arizona down after two miracle comebacks. But Arizona with Schilling and Johnson and a comeback of their own against the automatic Rivera took it away from the Yankees in a terrific finish.
